[OAUGNetDBA]-Re: Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 upgrade

Terry and All,

I have not seen any responses to this. Why would the steps in note 258247.1 necessary after an OS Upgrade? Seems like old tricks.
Also, I was wondering if relinking is even necessary after a Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 upgrade? I am sure there is some of you out there, that have already upgraded!

Regards,
-A

Hi All,
It's been a while since we upgraded Solaris, so I wanted to do a quick
sanity check. We will be upgrading from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10. We
are running single node 11.5.10.2, AD.I.5, ATG.H.RUP6, 9.2.0.8
environments.

1. In place Solaris upgrade
I have found the following ML notes to reference.
Note:258247.1 Operating System and Oracle Application Upgrade Best
Practices
Note:209810.1 How to Relink Oracle Applications 11i Programs After
Upgrade or Patch of the UNIX Operating System.
Note:131321.1 How to Relink Oracle Database Software on UNIX

It appears all I need to do is...
1. Shutdown apps and database.
2. Backup everything
3. Upgrade OS
4. Relink everything (9.2.0.8, 8.0.6, manually adrelink AD, relink all
other products from adadmin)
5. Startup apps and database
6. Test, Test, Test

Note:258247.1 talks about cleaning out concurrent manager tables prior
to the Solaris upgrade. This doesn't seem like a practical move. Why
would this be necessary?

2. Clone environment from Solaris 8 server to Solaris 10 server.
It looks like the rapidclone/autoconfig scripts take care of all the
tech stack relinking, but not the application programs. I would just
need to manually adrelink AD and then relink all other products from
adadmin.

I would appreciate any and all comments and suggestions.

Thanks,

Terry
