Hi Ronald -
Here are going to be your high level steps you need to follow:

Establish your BCVs (full or incremental) Sync your BCVs Put the
database in hot backup mode Split your BCVs Take the database out of hot
backup mode

Your entire application can remain up and available while this is going
on.
Are your BCVs setup such that the database and application are on
different BCV groups or are they one group?  If there are multiple
groups, then you want to make sure and split both off at the same time
so that the application and database are both at the same point in time.
