We upgraded to 11.5.10.2 last Dec. 3480000 took about 16-18hrs I believe running on a 6 cpu box. We have 2 app tiers and a database tier using shared application filesystem. I am not surprised that its taking so long on a 1 or 2 cpu box. Really your only option at that point, as others have suggested, is to used the Staged APPL_TOP to reduce time. If you have multiple tiers then shared application filesystem will save alot of time as well.
