Release 11i Workshops — Change Management
Paul Cyphers, Solution Beacon, LLC
"Let's face it, we perform Change Management functions whether we like or not, we should at least do it right." Organizations utilizing Oracle Applications software must consider the impact to people by examining the organizational and human resource issues associated with bringing changes to business processes, and therefore to job roles, responsibilities, departmental boundaries, and organizational structure. Managing change is difficult for any organization and requires effective processes and proper tools to achieve the required impact. This Solution Beacon Release 11i Workshop presentation introduces the change processes and procedures to effectively and efficiently manage organizational and technical change within your organization. Change through patching is a way of life with Oracle's E-Business Suite and affects both the business community and IT staff. Between 11i point releases, family packs and bug fixes business interruptions and downtime can become overwhelming and intrusive if the changes are not managed efficiently. Allowing for the events and requirements of change is necessary to effectively manage business systems and produce the desired results. Release 11i Workshops — To Patch or Not to Patch … It's Not a DBA Question
Alicia Hoekstra and John Stouffer, Solution Beacon, LLC
In earlier releases of the Oracle Applications, the area of patch application and patch application strategy was the purview of the technical support team — namely the applications DBAs. These early patches, usually very specific in nature, targeted specific bugs or functionality in the software. In the more recent versions of the applications, Release 11i in particular, the patching strategy has become much more of a business decision. Two major reasons for this are as follows: 1) Patches are predominately being released in sets and packs that often have a much wider range of impact than the desired resolution to a given issue; and 2) The involvement of, and success with, Oracle Support in any reported issue is directly proportional to the degree in which you are patched current. The target audience of this white paper is not only corporate technical teams, but also the functional business teams and management. Different patching methodologies will be presented with the relative merits and risks of each, as well as the impacts on the technical and business teams.
