DBA Guide to Understanding Sarbanes-Oxley
Steven Kost, Integrigy Corporation
Even though the Sarbanes-Oxley Act never mentions the words database or data, DBAs must ensure their databases are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley. Ensuring compliance is not an easy task because DBAs generally think in terms of SQL statements, initialization parameters and ratios, not internal controls, risk, attestation, governance and weaknesses. Unfortunately, there is no database initialization parameter SOX_COMPLIANCE=TRUE, rather many aspects of operating and maintaining the database and Oracle Applications must be performed in a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant manner. This presentation will provide a framework and practical tips for DBAs to ensure their databases are compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley and also provide real-world advice on how to remediate auditors’ findings.

An Approach to Oracle Applications Change Management
Kim Sowers, Rochester Institute of Technology
This paper will document the change management process used by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to manage changes within our five Oracle Applications environments.
To put our change management process in context, a description of each of our non-production environments (two test instances, an instance each for development and training) will be presented. How we use each of those instances will also be shared. Our philosophy of separation of duties and how this influences what type of access individuals in various roles (e.g., developers) have in each type of instance (e.g., development, test) will also be discussed.
After setting the context for our change management processes, the types of changes that we manage using the process (e.g., patches, custom forms and reports, workflows, alerts, profile options) will be discussed. The way we perform source code control will be outlined for each type of change. How changes are migrated from one environment to another will be presented. The tools used for source code control and change migration (many of them standard UNIX utilities or Oracle Applications functionality) will be discussed.
Our change management process relies heavily on a document we refer to as a move sheet. Our move sheet will be shared, including an explanation of why we require the information included on it.
Some of the change management challenges we face will also be discussed.
