OAUG News
President’s Corner
2007 OAUG President Jan Wagner
As I am on my way to participate in the National Conference Series 2007 — Oracle with 20:20 Foresight in Australia, I wanted to take this time to share some of the key announcements from Oracle OpenWorld 2007, which took place last week in San Francisco, Calif.
During the week, Oracle made several important announcements regarding Oracle Fusion Applications. Participating in the OAUG Fusion Council panel discussion on Sunday, Steve Miranda, Oracle senior vice president, applications development, provided an update on the status of Fusion Applications development and indicated that the path to Fusion Applications from the Applications Unlimited product lines will be an upgrade rather than a new implementation.
Later in the week, the presidents of the other users groups and I had the opportunity to meet with Oracle President Charles Phillips, who confirmed that Fusion Applications will be treated as an upgrade, not a new product. Phillips went on to say that 2008 is still the target for the first Fusion modules. Phillips said that the drama and speculation that followed the departure of John Wookey, who was previously in charge of Oracle’s applications development, was unfounded and that Oracle’s Fusion Applications projects were proceeding as planned. Phillips also indicated that Oracle will continue to implement the company’s acquisition strategy, with more acquisitions in more industries.
On Thursday, during his keynote address, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison introduced the first Fusion Applications for sales force automation: Oracle Sales Prospector, Oracle Sales References and Oracle Sales Tools. Ellison further confirmed 2008 as the target for the release of these applications.
Prior to Oracle OpenWorld, the Oracle Applications users community was feeling left in the dark about the status of the Fusion Applications. Anything can change, of course, but if the announcements that came out of Oracle OpenWorld last week are any indication, it does look like Oracle is moving forward with Project Fusion. On behalf of the OAUG, I will try to keep you up to date regarding Fusion Applications as news becomes available.
— Jan Wagner, OAUG President
